Cloud computing/Windows Azure platform
The last couple of days I’ve been reading about cloud computing, mostly Windows Azure. Microsoft says that the Windows Azure Platform it is the following:
- An operating system as a service (Windows Azure)
- A fully relational database in the cloud (SQL Azure)
- Cosumable web based services with security and access control (.NET Services)
Currently the services are free, they are released in CTP. On February 1st next year Microsoft will start charging customers for using the platform.
Anyway, the last couple of days I’ve been reading about this platform, four very good white papers written by David Chapell (http://www.davidchappell.com):
- Introducing the Windows Azure Platform: An Early Look at Windows Azure, SQL Azure, and .NET Services
- Introducing Windows Azure
- Windows Azure And ISVs: A Guide for Decision Makers
- A Short Introduction to Cloud Platforms
You can find them at http://www.davidchappell.com/writing/white_papers.php, and you won’t be disappointed!
